Welcome
The Monastery of Gihindamuyaga, founded in 1958 by the Abbey of Maredsous in Belgium, is a Benedictine monastic community under the patronage of Saints Peter and Paul. Located in the Diocese of Butare in southern Rwanda, the monastery has become a beacon of spiritual life and community engagement in the region. Over the years, Gihindamuyaga has grown from its modest beginnings into a vibrant spiritual center that provides both religious guidance and practical services to the surrounding community. In 2018, the monastery achieved a major milestone, becoming an independent conventual priory. This move affirmed its autonomy from its founding Abbey while remaining deeply rooted in the Benedictine values of Ora et Labora (Pray and Work).
